The most beautiful islands to go on holiday in Greece

Santorini

Also known as the Green Island due to its lush greenery, Zakynthos has many beautiful beaches. Unfortunately there are several buildings of the ancient domain of the Serenissima, mostly damaged by the earthquake of 1953, only partially rebuilt.

Crete

Among the most beautiful islands of Greece, one cannot fail to mention Crete, the largest Greek island and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean. Lefkada

Lefkada is another island in the Ionian Sea off the west coast of Greece. It is connected to the mainland by a movable bridge. The only Greek island connected to the mainland. Lefkada is a mountainous island with beautiful and wild beaches with sand, pebbles and rocks. Its clear and turquoise sea is perfect for boat trips. Syros

The island of Syros, or Siro, is located in the Cyclades archipelago, near Mykonos. Less frequented by mass tourism, but no wonder you can’t miss it. White and colored houses, rocks, deep blue sea with uncrowded beaches make Syros an enchanting place. The island has a rich history and the capital Ermopoli still retains traces of the ancient Venetian domination.

There are several Catholic and Orthodox churches on the island, the main one being the Church of St. Nicholas, which stands out above the center of Ermopoli with its characteristic blue dome.
