What to know before leaving for Spain

Spain is by far one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. If you too have chosen to choose it as a destination for your next vacation, there is a series of information that you should know, to avoid nasty last-minute surprises. So let’s find out together everything you need to know about Spain, from information relating to documentation, up to the climate and local cuisine.

The documentation

Spain, as you surely know, is within the borders of the European Union: this means that you only need a valid identity document to be able to enter Spain. Even the passport, although not absolutely necessary, is a valid document that entitles you to enter Spain.
Finally, you will need to have travel insurance and apply for the European Health Card from your local health company: otherwise, you will not be able to take advantage of free health care.
In addition, we recommend that you always have documents regarding the minor’s family and birth status with you in case of customs control. Finally, when traveling, the minor must always be accompanied by a parent, at least up to the age of 14: the parent’s name must also be shown on the passport or on the attached declaration.

The security

If you have security concerns in Spain, relax: the authorities have taken numerous preventive measures to avoid accidents such as robberies, robberies and all kinds of crimes. Although there are no risk areas, beware – Spain is a very popular tourist destination and in some neighborhoods travelers are tempted by street robbers.

The viability

Coming from a European Union country, to drive on Spanish roads it is sufficient to have an Italian driving license, car insurance and a power of attorney certified by a notary, in case the car is not owned by you but by a friend. If you drive on the motorway, you can pay regularly at the toll booth by credit card or cash.
When it comes to driving rules, there are some explanations that will put you very much at ease if you want to avoid hefty fines: specifically, you won’t be able to drive with your smartphone in hand, only with headphones, and keep it elsewhere and you won’t be either able to use it when refueling with the radio. Furthermore, it is strictly forbidden to use navigators with Velox automatic detection.

Transports

Transport in Spain is by far one of the most functional and economical in Europe: the huge influx of tourists has in fact required an efficient and punctual public transport network. So you can use the metro, trains, trams and buses for a fee, and of course taxis and shuttles. As for the Spanish airports, they are all equipped with a bus that will take you to the centers of the main cities, from where you can reach the suburbs and other cities. When booking your flight, keep in mind that what used to be considered secondary airports (such as Reus, Valladolid and Girona airports) are now particularly crowded due to the increase in low cost flights.

The health

situation In case, unfortunately, something unpleasant happens to you in Spain, know that you will be able to use the Spanish public health service for free and receive the same care as in Italy. However, provided you have a European Health Card (TSE), which you can apply for in your ASL.
In any case, the advice is to inquire on the website of the Ministry of Health, going to the sections “health and citizens” and then “Italian aid abroad”. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that private hospitals and treatment centers do not accept TSE. In this case, you will have to pay for the help out of your own pocket: an unexpected event that you can avoid by taking out a health policy that gives you protection.
