Despite Dunsborough’s very popular status as a tourist destination, it has fortunately not reached the international or even national scale. The city has become a popular hotspot for Perth locals on weekends and holidays, but the rest of the world has yet to enter this secret gem of southwestern Australia. As a result, you can still expect to find secluded beaches and beautiful spots all to yourself. Today we will take you to discover the best things to do and see in Dunsborough.
Beach Hop
Even though there are so many gorgeous beaches in Western Australia, I swear there is nothing like the beaches around Cape Naturaliste. While it’s definitely a vacation spot, luckily it hasn’t achieved the celebrity status you’d expect from beautiful white sand and pristine waters. The coastal road between Meelup Beach and Eagle Bay offers numerous beaches and breathtaking views that are worth exploring. For the cleanest blue water, be sure to head to Bunker Bay, while Point Piquet is quaint and often secluded.

Brunch
Nothing says a vacation like a lazy morning filled with good company and even better food. Brunch is a favorite activity in Dunsborough, as indicated by the large number of brunch cafes and restaurants. The Goanna Cafe is located in the Quindalup bush but well worth it. Make sure you try their Indo breakfast – it’s phenomenal. A couple of other favorites include Canteen Kitchen and Yallingup General Store.
Whale watching
From September to early December, the southwestern oceans are home to thousands of whales. We have never lived anywhere with so many whales swimming in the water. Whenever you go to the beach or drive along the coast, you will likely see whales splashing in the distance.
The waters around Dunsborough are home to humpback whales, blue whales, southern right and dwarf whales. It is an incredible sight to see the largest animals in the world in their natural habitat.
For stunning views of these whales from the shore, head to Point Piquet at Cape Naturaliste. About 100 meters from the shore is a deep channel where whales swim daily and is known by some locals as the highway whale.
The best way to have an extraordinary encounter with these creatures is to get out on the water for a whale watching excursion. Watching these wonderful creatures in the water is an extraordinary experience.

Sunset at Sugarloaf Rock
Towards Cape Naturaliste there is a spectacular view of Sugarloaf Rock. This towering mountain of granite rock protrudes from the water in a pyramid shape and creates a unique backdrop for the sunset. Have a few drinks and admire the view of the setting sun on the horizon casting a golden glow over Sugarloaf Rock.
Barbecue in Yallingup
A true Australian classic: there is nothing more Australian than grilling on the beach. Take advantage of the free electric grills, picnic area, grassy lawn and beautiful seascape offered at Yallingup. The elevated viewing platform is the perfect place to relax after your meal and see local talent during your main break in Yallingup.
Over the years this has become a recurring activity and one of our favorite things to do in Yallingup.

Find holiday accommodation
Finding a Dunsborough Holiday Accommodation is not difficult and finding an exclusive for such a beautiful place will certainly not be difficult but be careful to always find what reflects what you want. Finding accommodation in this area will give you several possibilities for everything you want.
Injidup Natural Spa
At the end of Wyadup Rd, behind Yallingup, there is a rock pool and spa that make up nature. This extraordinary phenomenon occurs when ocean water rises through a crevice in the rocks and pours into the pool, vaguely mimicking the streams of a spa. Immerse yourself in these cracks and enjoy a free massage.
There is some rock climbing from the car park, but you will be well rewarded for this unique location. This activity has gained popularity in recent years, and while you may no longer have the place to yourself, it’s definitely worth it.

Navigate
No trip to Southwest Australia is complete with trying your hand at local surfing. If you are a beginner, Crystal at Yallingup Surf School offers great lessons to make you feel comfortable. Unlike many other world-class surf spots, you can expect to share the water with only a handful of others.
Coastal excursions
There is no shortage of fantastic walks in this area to experience the rugged and pristine seascapes of South West Australia. A popular coastal hike, Cape to Cape Track, travels 135km through the Margaret River region from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin and offers access to otherwise inaccessible views and beaches. If you don’t like the 5 days of hiking, smaller sections of the trail are available.
Another beautiful and favorite trail runs along the Meelup Nature Reserve Trail from Old Dunsborough to Castle Rock. Climb to the top of Castle Rock at the end to enjoy views of the surrounding area.
