The best things to see in Turkey

Turkey is a truly vast country with such a varied territory that ranges from the sea to the mountains to beautiful cities, passing through valleys, rock formations, natural pools and much more. Today we will take you to discover the most beautiful things to see in Turkey.

Istanbul

Always a must for visitors to Turkey, Istanbul is unique and fascinating, with a long imperial history. Its peculiarity is its position between two continents: the city is in fact described as global, as its territory is half part of Europe and half of Asia, divided by the shores of the Bosphorus.

The tall columns of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque stand out in the landscape of Istanbul, sacred places with an imposing Byzantine style.

Smyrna

Also known as Izmir, Izmir is Turkey’s third largest city in terms of population and tourist influx, just after Istanbul and Ankara. Izmir is mainly a place of industrial and commercial importance due to its port location in the Aegean Sea, but thanks to its historical center represented by the Konak district and other interesting places, many tourists come here every year.

Do not miss the Alsancak district, the small Turkish Italy, the Agora of Marcus Aurelius, the Church of San Policarpo, the clock tower, the covered market of Kemeralti and the many museums, mosques, synagogues and parks.

Pamukkale

What words to describe the wonderful landscape of Pamukkale? There is a natural place in southwestern Turkey that is a true paradise, with a stairway shape, white and blue colors, limestone rocks and very hot thermal waters.

After all, Pamukkale means “cotton castle”! Visiting Pamukkale means indulging in a day of well-being between the visit of the site and the obligatory immersion in the natural pools that can only benefit your health. Another thing to see in Pamukkale are the ruins of Hierapolis Pamukkale (whose name means “Cotton Castle”) in Denizli province, famous for its hot springs that form limestone concretions. Inserted in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1988, Hierapolis of Phrygia is one of the most popular archaeological and naturalistic sites in the Mediterranean, with about 1.5 million visitors a year.

Göreme and Cappadocia

In the famous region of Cappadocia, considered the most beautiful in all of Turkey, Goreme is a small village of only 2,000 inhabitants, but with an incomparable charm given by the lunar landscapes, so wonderful that they are called fairy tales.

It is no coincidence that the famous rock formations around Goreme are called Fairy Chimneys! We are talking about the Göreme National Park, inscribed on the World Heritage List since 1985, and an open-air museum that is a testimony of Byzantine life.

Although the main attraction of Goreme is the park, also famous for its balloon flights, which can be admired in all the photos of Cappadocia proposed by each local agency, in this village there are also several churches and mosques, such as the most iconic Tokali Kilise carved in rock.

Uçhisarù

If you have visited Goreme and are fascinated by it, you should also consider Uçhisar, just 5 kilometers from Göreme and in the immediate vicinity of the National Park. It is a bizarre monument, a 60 meters high rocky fortress that once housed a peculiar tuff citadel with defensive purposes, which today has become another major tourist attraction.

Inside, several churches and rooms carved into the rock have been discovered, and it is possible to enter and walk the intricate system of tunnels and alleys until you reach the top where a splendid panorama awaits you, especially at sunset when Cappadocia lights up with heat. colors.
